Music You Should Know - Fall Edition!

After my last post a couple days ago, it's time to lighten the mood a bit and give you folks some highlights of what's hot right now...

I'm known as "Mr. Commercial" at work and my peers make fun of me a bit but I don't mind because there's no one else in that place who is as tapped into what people are downloading and what's current. I pride myself with my seasonal mixes based on how fresh they are and that I can mix in lesser known electronic artists that my friends would never hear otherwise.

Fall is always the biggest release time of the year. Many albums that get released in October and November are "events" and will do well simply just based on hype. Aside from new records by major hit makers, some artists also choose to release greatest hits albums around mid November with the intention of making some big sales with holiday gift buyers. The season is about to kick off this Tuesday with the release of Kings of Leon's "Come Around Sundown" followed by Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" which is out the following Tuesday. Both artists have mass commercial appeal and both albums have been widely anticipated from school girls to hockey dad's nationwide. Not to be outdone, November has some big hitters too from Rihanna's "Loud" to Kanye West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" to Ne-Yo's "Libra Scale". Pink and Nelly Furtado are just two of many artists "hits" packages being released. Robyn announced just recently that she will be releasing the "ultimate" Body Talk album in late November. This would be her third release this year. She has been doing these highly successful EP's every few months and she is getting lots of love from the gays. I love that we live in a world that would give someone like her another chance. Her singles this year "Dancing On My Own" and "Hang With Me" are near the top of my list of favourite tracks that have come out in 2010. Her new single "Indestructible" is gaining huge momentum as we speak (and featured on Autumn Beats).

We can't forget about holiday music. The biggest selling artist last year in the world was a beyond middle aged housewife from England. She returns this year with "The Gift" out November 9th - it's safe to say that this will be a huge release that could outsell almost everything else. For whatever reason people are drawn to Susan Boyle and whatever she does turns to gold or I should say multi-platinum in her case. Annie Lennox is also expected to do quite well with her holiday record "A Christmas Cornucopia" - one of my all time favourite versions of "Winter Wonderland" was sung by Annie back in 1987 so I'm interested too see what this album will be like. Mariah Carey decided that one holiday album from her just wasn't enough and is releasing "Merry Christmas to You II" in a few weeks. The cover is horribly airbrushed - I mean everyone knows she hasn't been that thin in years - I'm not sure at this point what the response will be to this release as she's been off her mark lately with her last two attempts.

Ok enough release talk - let's get you some goodies to checkout...
